The truck model

The truck model was downloaded of Internet and highly modified and improved. The frame and tyres were modified as well as the materials. In the clip the truck runs over the robot killing him, it was important to get the timing between two animations right and for this purpose the curve editor was used:

The Gun Fire

The gun fire was designed using the build-in 3ds Max feature (effect) called Fire Effect:

Bean's eyes

To control certain animations and to show things like character anticipating it is important to control character's facial features. In the Bean character the eyelids are made of two semispheres that were modified. To control how much an eye is open the "to" and "from" of semisphere can be adjusted:

The bullet trail animation

There are numerous methods of doing the bullet trail animation similar to the one used in Matrix movie. Unfortunately all of the require to use raytracing to simulate light refraction. Having a very slow computer I realised that it would be better not to use refraction. Instead the semi transparent set of squashed spheres was used.
It was very important to make sure that the bullet and trail is animated where and when it suppose to be animated. For this a special Transform controller was assigned to the bullet trail called "Path Constraint". From the screenshot above 3 different splines (red, green and blue) represent show the path that will be used for bullet movement. The curve editor was also used to adjust the "when" of bullet trail animation.

The setting

The scene is set in the docks, It's full of shipping containers and the lighting is poor:

To simulate lighting effect the following street lamp was developed. It consists of 3 spot lights. The settings were configured in such a way as to make light dim and disperse.

There were other objects like pallets. The modelling was simple and incorporated just a couple of boxes and cylinders. The wood material was used.

Since the scene is set in the docks there'se going to be a lot of shipping containers. The container is simply a box with edges:

The texture for containers was designed in Photoshop. The picture of the real container was found to produce a texture. The bump map texture was produces to make the look of the containers more realistic.

Photoshop was also used to paint containers in different colours with a simple "Replace Colour" function.
